The best way to promote your martial arts school, really, is to seek to live the life of a martial arts master teacher. To do that you have to define your role –your mission.

Well, you don’t HAVE to, but then you don’t HAVE to be in shape, you don’t HAVE to plan classes, you don’t HAVE to do anything (but show up…and even then….).

In the Ultimate Black Belt Test, we use our own training to define what we have that’s of value.

The Live Like a Champion Project, with my friend, student, and now coach, BJ Penn, begins January 1, 2010 –that is, in just a few days. The concept behind the project is, of course, to live like a champion –and to do it for a solid year; as if we were getting ready for the Olympics or our own World Championships or, as this is a version of The Ultimate Black Belt Test, for our own black belt rank-test. The New Way Network’s Approach to the Business of the Martial Arts

New Way LogoThe New Way Network is a martial arts association made up of school owners and instructors of all different martial arts styles, systems, and methods. Its approach and philosophical platform was/is designed by Tom Callos, who is a veteran martial arts teacher and a longtime consultant to “the martial arts industry.”

Callos, who often refers to The New Way as “The Green Party of the martial arts world,” encourages martial arts school owners and teachers to embrace and teach concepts such as environmental self-defense, anger management, experiential leadership training, diabetes prevention, voluntary simplicity, community activism, and non-violent conflict resolution. My School, Your School. Black Belt Testing and Beyond

anger-controlMy school is a lot like your school, as we do some of the same kinds of work (teacher/students, goals/progress).  My school, however, doesn’t cater to beginners (although I’m glad yours does). My school serves men and women who have dedicated their lives to teaching others the martial arts.
